Introduction
Kailash Mansarovar yatra by overland starts from Kathmandu, you will travel by road throughout the journey.
Mount Kailash isn’t simply a mountain but a symbol of belief & faith among four religions: Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Bon. The mountain stands near lake Manasarovar and lake Rakshastal. It is the source of four major holy rivers in Asia: the Indus, Sutlej, Brahmaputra and Karnali. People who aren't able to perform a holy bath at Lake Manasarovar go into above rivers with the same belief and faith.
Mansarovar is another holy place toward north of Mt. Kailash. Just as Mt. Kailash does, this lake also holds its own religious value among various religions. Each have their own beliefs and faith about Kailash Mansarovar Yatra as per their devotional texts.
However, we can view Mount Kailash from the Nepalese side, particularly from areas in the northern regions of Nepal, such as Simikot or Hilsa. These areas provide distant views of Mount Kailash across the border in Tibet. Please keep in mind that direct access to Mount Kailash for trekking or circumambulation would require entering Tibet from China, and specific permits are necessary.
If you're interested in a pilgrimage or trekking experience around Mount Kailash, you may need to plan your trip through the Chinese authorities and adhere to their regulations. Organized tours are often available, and it's crucial to obtain the required permits before embarking on such a journey. One can also take a mountain flight from Kathmandu-Nepalgunj to Tibet border side that offers a magnificent close view of holy Kailash and the Mansarovar Lake depending upon the weather and visibility. However, choosing an overland Kailash journey will be the wisest risk-free option where one can take a tour/ Parikrama around the Kailash Parvat, enjoy the live experience of travelling around Mount Kailash, beautiful Mansarovar Lake, Gauri Kunda as well as Rakshas Taal, all having their own religious significance.
